BIOGRAPHY:
Alejandro Jose Abal Garcia who goes by Abal or Abal Garcia, was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, where he currently resides with his wife and two children. Described as a “vibrant, eclectic place with a rich cultural life", Montevideo is the largest city, and capital of the chief port in Uruguay. The architecture of Montevideo reflects its history, ranging from colonial to Art Deco, influenced by Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and British immigrants.
No doubt Montevideo’s rich cultural history and splendid architecture has inspired and influenced Abal Garcia’s creative process throughout his years of painting. Thirteen years ago Abal Garcia, a self-taught painter, began watercolor drawings at the squares in the center of historic Montevideo. His artwork at that time was a compilation of front sides and towers of old, eclectic buildings as well as landscapes, benches, lamps, trees and Palm trees.
From 2000 to 2011 Abal Garcia used oil on canvas, cardboard, wood and paper in a constructive and abstract style to depict urban landscapes and seafarers of Independence Square, Port of the Diving and Port of La Coruña.
In 2012 as Abal Garcia grew more and more comfortable with a variety of techniques (fundamentally his compositions are abstract using mostly acrylic and collage with various materials such as paper, cardboard, fabric, metal, etc.), he has continued to grow and evolve his art through composition workshops in drawing, color and acrylic at the Torres GarcÃa Museum. More recently, in 2013 Abal Garcia began a painting workshop with Rodrigo Fló, in development of a creative project. Abal Garcia’s years of work culminated in October 2013, where he participated in an exhibition called "Bridges", in the town of Piriápolis, Maldonado, Uruguay, an important summer resort in the country, predating the larger and better known resort town of Punta del Este.
