SHELBY GALLUS-AMORE'

December 13, 2013 in Featured Artists, Painters, Sculptors

BIOGRAPHY:

Artist Shelby Gallus-Amoré is a self-taught abstract artist born January 1973 in Toronto, Canada.

After the sudden loss of a very close friend who encouraged her rebellious artistic side, Shelby decided in 2008 to use Art as a form of grief therapy. Only recently has Shelby gained enough confidence to publish her work online and share it with the world.

Shelby works primarily in acrylic on canvas, but also enjoys pencil sketching, piñata-making, paper mâché sculpture, filmmaking and creating unique greeting cards. Her artistic endeavors provide a means of relaxation, and she particularly enjoys the solitude and the creative energy that comes with it.

Observers of her work are struck by it’s free-form and geometric abstract shapes with brilliant solids and Ombre shading. Shelby loves to explore the mixing of colors and various paint application techniques [ e.g. her piece called "Paint on Fire," which is featured in the image gallery below, was done using shades of 4 basic colors and without using a brush or touching the canvas directly! ]

Shelby sees a connection between psychology, gender, and creativity which she attempts to explore in some of her art.  She enjoys pushing the envelope in artwork, from representing phobias in abstract to creating images with some duality or a more whimsical sexual subject.
