BIOGRAPHY:

 

(Angela) Daniela Godoy a native to Ecuador, moved to Maryland at the age of seven. Recently she earned B.A, in Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art, 2012. She currently living in Gaithersburg, MD.  Most notoriously she was a part of the Momentum Exhibition, at the Smithsonian S. Dillon Ripley Center in D.C, for emerging artist with Disabilities Sept 7, 2011 –Jan 22 2012.  Subsequent to this Momentum Exhibition was showcased at the Volkswagen headquarters, in VA, this and in the Stearns History Museum in St. Cloud Minnesota.

 

During the summer of 2012 she was invited to form part of a field research project where she worked as a photographer and painter. The multimedia research project of the January ritual harvest songs was focused on studying the Andino Indigenous community Chimborazo region of Ecuador who sang the Jahuay ritual harvest song. The objective of the project was to recover, document these songs that date back to at least 500 years in Ecuadorian history. The project was presented to the Institute National de Patrimonio Cultural de Ecuador (INPC) (The National Institute of Cultural Patrimony. Concurrently, to her fieldwork, several of her painting were featured in several book cover publications throughout Ecuador.

 

The pictures she collected over the course of her three month experience in the Andes Ecuador, inspired her latest series of paintings entitled Jahuay! A series of acrylic paintings that she developed this series through out the course of a year.  Theses pieces encompass the different stages of the harvest and the relationship of the community to the earth. Her year of work culminated with thirteen paintings with her first solo international, A SzabadművelÅ‘dés Háza , (House of free Culture) in Szekesfehervar, Hungary. The show was opened to the Hungarian public from Oct 8 to 21 of this year.

 

Prior to her trip to Hungary her portrait series was feature in a two group shows in New York City. Recently she has been invited to do a similar showing of herJahuay series in several major cities of Ecuador.
